Week 1 Sharks Update: Week of May 28

Families,

We are super excited to kick off our Sharks 2024 Season this week! It is going to be a great year.

Spiritwear:

The spiritwear store will close for sure tomorrow evening, Sunday, at midnight. Grab your gear to support your swimmers before it is too late: https://srsharksspirit2024.itemorder.com/

Officials Update: Stroke and Turn, Starters, and Referees:

I am not sure we have ever had this happen in the history of the Sharks, but we have closed off registration to become an official for the season. We have more than enough officials for the season, and we appreciate everyone who has signed up!

Events:

With the popularity in becoming an official, it has made it more difficult to find event leads. We want to host all of the fun events that we always have, but they will not happen without willing LEADS to coordinate the events. Currently the only events that will happen this season are Tie Dye Day and Pasta Night.

Currently, we need every other event covered to make this the best season yet. Leads need to be organized and able to communicate effectively with a group. We have the plans laid out, but we need people to volunteer to be able to have the fun.

The end of year pool party, ice cream socials, Bring your Own Cereal, and other events will be CANCELED unless we have families step up to help! Here is what is needed and you will see the points given for each one: Shark Leads for Events Email

Leading events is the quickest and most fun way to meet your points! Please respond to this email if you are willing to help out with events this season and let us know with which one you would like to help. It will be first come first serve.

Practice:

Swim Team practice starts this week! Here is a link to our evening schedule: https://stoneridgesharks.swimtopia.com/evening-practice

Please remember that you must come to your assigned time. We are much larger than previous seasons and cannot accommodate any switches. We ask that swimmers come with their kickboard, goggles, fins and towel clearly labeled with their first and last name. Parents should refrain from being near the practice lanes even though the pool is open. Please stay in the party room or in chairs not near the lanes. We appreciate your cooperation to keep the swimmers focused.

If you are in need of communication with the coach, please refrain from speaking to them on deck during practice. They need to have their full attention on the swimmers. Please email our parent liaison, Kristina Patrick, with any questions or concerns. Her email is [email protected]. She will facilitate conversations with our coaches to respect the swimmer’s time in the water.

Time Trials:

Please sign up here for time trials: https://stoneridgesharks.swimtopia.com/swim_meets/586538/swim_meet_entries

Swimmer’s are allowed to swim all five strokes at the meet, but please remember swimmer safety. If you are not a returning swimmer or coming from a competitive team, please only sign up for freestyle and backstroke. Breaststroke and Fly are very technical strokes, and it is not good for any swimmer to pick up bad habits swimming them incorrectly. It will take more work to correct their strokes for the future. IM is 4 full laps of each stroke and takes endurance that needs to be built up as we practice more throughout the summer. Swimmers also need to be able to swim breaststroke and fly during IM, which are very technical strokes. So, please only sign up for events that your swimmer can SAFELY and LEGALLY swim.

Meet Schedule:

For reference, our meet schedule is here: https://stoneridgesharks.swimtopia.com/meet-schedule

We have 3 home meets right in a row early in the season, and do not have another one until July 10.

Looking forward to a great season.

Swimmingly,

Marianne
